Cardiology or Echocardiography is one of the oldest and most popular forms of ultrasound used in medicine. Standard procedure is to have an ultrasound machine with 2D, M-Mode, PW Doppler, CW Doppler and Color Doppler readily available for each study. Many Echo machines do stress echo which provides information on a patient’s heart while it is in a resting state then compares it to the heavy stressed state form exercise. Sector probes or phased array probes seem to give the high frame rates needed to evaluate the fast moving heart muscle and can show small to large vascular jets with ease. For years HP Ultrasound, which was purchased by Philips, was the undisputed leader in Cardiovascular ultrasound, now GE has emerged as a powerhouse in Echo cardiography and there are many other choices for Cardiology Ultrasound that will do a nice job in the office, clinic, imaging center and hospital setting.
