Cardiovascular Ultrasound combines adult echo cardiograph with a vascular unit. Largely used in a cardiology practice or hospital to evaluate the heart and carotid arteries of mostly older patients. Echo techs will look at heart wall motion abnormalities and valvular defects and blood flow in the carotid artery to help prevent strokes. Many Cardiovascular labs will evaluate the Aorta looking for signs of aortic aneurism. Typically, a cardiovascular ultrasound system will have a sector probe, a linear transducer and with accreditation in play now, most labs order a pencil probe for evaluation of aortic steno-sis.
